By the end of the day, the Oasis’s central spire had grown enough in their vision that it had resolved from a monolithic structure into an interwoven lattice of thousands of crystal pillars, each a subtly different shade of yellow, orange, and red. The primary spoke rose from the end of a colossal stadium of crystal columns that formed a spiked crown taller than the library in Hidan.

It took another uneventful day to reach the Oasis itself. It towered above them. Raysha craned her neck, looking up at the structure. “So… uhhh… there’s an inside, right?”

Hlaya pointed with her cane, away from the massive central column itself. Sure enough, where Hlaya pointed she could just make out what seemed to be an ascending path up into the structure. Beside the entrance was a curious metal plaque off to the side. Raysha asked about it as they approached.

Hlaya was happy to explain. “It’s the agreement between Darius and Paratha to keep this place a domain of the spirits. No tourist attractions, no roads to make travel easy, no outposts or resupply stations within a hundred miles. All designed to keep the number of visitors low enough to not disturb the spirits.”

That was… surprisingly nice. Raysha wondered what the governments got out of leaving the Oasis as pristine as possible.

The group made their way to the entrance, and Raysha reached a hand out to the smooth, golden crystals to her side. Under her feet, hexagonal crystal blocks wider than a grown man melded together to form a series of uneven steps between rows of rising columns.

Raysha ran up the steps, her staff ringing against the crystal ground. Octavian and Vashi followed closely behind, and Hlaya bought up the rear at a more dignified pace. In front of Raysha, the crystal entrance opened up into no mere plateau.

The steps led to the side of a great basin, hundreds of yards across. Beyond the water, tall crystal pillars formed a wall and windbreak, providing shelter to the plant life that crowded the edges of the plateau. Perfectly clear water filled the basin, forming an actual oasis, and lush vegetation carpeted small islands of crystal jutting up out of the shallow lake. Roots wedged themselves between the gaps in the columns, struggling to push them apart and find purchase while they reached down thirstily to the waterline, and grass sprouted from every crack and crevice. Broad canopies stretched up into the sky, and green leaves that seemed to literally glow with health soaked up the sun’s light. Rich fruit and berries hung from many of the plants, weighing down branches and stalks.

Raysha’s mouth hung open.

Above the water, dozens of species of birds flitted between branches, chirping noisily. A flight of tiny, black birds chased each other across the basin, leaving a trail of ripples where their wings brushed the surface of the water. Underneath them, small silver fish darted away from their games, and larger figures glided lazily, unconcerned with the playful birds above them.

This… this is amazing.
